how’d you do?

For the week (July 27 – August 7, 2006): Eat at least 5 colors of fruits & vegetables today.  The more diverse the colors are, the more vitamins, minerals, & antioxidants you’ll get. Ex: red apple, blueberries, green lettuce, orange carrots and yellow corn.

Thurs, July 27: Avoid all trans fats today.  These are the nasty little fats that raise your cholesterol. Look for the word ‘partially hydrogenated’ & steer clear.  Many trans fats are found in packaged crackers, cookies & cereals.

I did good on my 5 colors: red grapes, blueberries, orange peach, green salad, purple cabbage (on my salad).  Trans fats – well, I did good until snack shop time, then I got a package of oreo type cookies with partially hydrogenated oil.  Darn those sugar cravings!

Protein

How was your breakfast?  I had a fried egg with a slice of soy cheese, 1/2 cup yogurt with some berries and a couple walnuts.  It was yummy!  It kept me full for over 3 hours.  Did you drink your water today?  I drank all of it, but not necessarily before meals, especially dinner.

Here is tomorrows challenge:

Wed, July 19: Don’t eat while standing up, while on the phone or in front of the tv!  This can have a huge impact on weight loss.  You usually eat too much too quickly.

New week of challenges

How did you do last week?  Which challenge was the easiest?  How about the hardest?  Todays challenge just reminded me how bad I ate today.  I had a good breakfast, but then I had leftover Come Alive dinner for lunch (too big a portion), a 3 Muskateer bar, popcorn, a good dinner, but then ice cream for dessert.  Oh well, I can do better tomorrow.  This weeks all week challenge is one of last weeks daily challenges, but its a good one.  Here they are:

For the week (July 18-24, 2006): Drink a large glass of water (at least 12 oz) before each meal & snack.  This one helps you to feel full and helps with your water consumption.

Tues, July 18: Have a protein-based breakfast!  egg whites, cottage cheese or a protein smoothie.

Wed, July 19: Don’t eat while standing up, while on the phone or in front of the tv!  This can have a huge impact on weight loss.  You usually eat too much too quickly.

Thurs, July 20: Eat your sandwich open faced, to cut down on both calories & carbohydrates.  If you don’t eat sandwiches, find another serving of starch to cut out today.

Fri, July 21:Eat at least 5 colors of fruits & vegetables today.  The more diverse the colors are, the more vitamins, minerals, & antioxidants you’ll get. Ex: red apple, blueberries, green lettuce, orange carrots and yellow corn.

Sat, July 22: Eat 2 servings of vegetables with both lunch & dinner.

Sun, July 23: Avoid salt. Do not use the saltshaker & try to avoid any processed foods that are high in sodium.  You’ll lose water weight instantly.

Mon, July 24: Make dinner your smallest meal of the day & breakfast your largest.  You’ll be energized all day.

For tomorrow – 96 oz of water, drink at least 12 oz of water before every meal & snack & start the day off with protein!!!  Debyi

How did your snacks go?

How did you do today?  I did pretty good.  I had carrots and broccoli for one snack and an apple for the other.  I did have some soy ice cream for dessert after dinner, which isn’t technically a snack, but still not a fruit or veggie.

Food for Thought

Things we should/shouldn’t eat to keep us young & healthy.  We know most of it, but it was a good reminder.
Five to AVOID
1. Saturated Fat
2. Trans Fat (anything that says Partially Hydrogenated)
3. Sugar
4. High Fructose (again, sugar)
5. Enriched flour, enriched wheat (this means they took the good stuff out and put a little back in!) Instead go for whole grain.

How’d you do?

How did you do?  Did you drink only water today?  I didn’t even drink my tea today, mainly because I was running so late this morning, I barely had time to eat breakfast.  Were you able to wait for 10 minutes before taking seconds today?  I did really good until dinner, I think I only waited about 4 minutes before scooping up one more ladle of soup.  Here is an interesting thing I found about caffeine.  Makes you think before picking up that can of pop or that cup of tea.

You Ready?

I have two challenges for you each week.  One challenge for the whole week (every day) and a different challenge each day, you would only have to try it for 24 hours.  I will have the same challenge for both the week and the days listed.  I will list the whole week worth of challenges.  Of course, the contimuing challenge is to get 96 oz of water.  Have you made it to at least 64 oz everyday without thinking about it too much?  I hope so.  Here we go:

For the week (July 11-17, 2006): Wait 10 minutes before taking a second serving of food – you won’t notice if you’re full for at least that long!

Tues, July 11: Avoid all caloric beverages today!  This means no juice, soda, or sugar sweetened drinks.  Its only for ine day, so be strong.

Wed, July 12: Avoid all snack food today!  Eat only fruits & veggies as you in-between-meals nourishment.  This includes no trail mix, granola bars, etc.  You may need to plan ahead and buy an apple and some carrots for this one.

Thurs, July 13: Leave 25% of each meal on your plate today.  Take note if you are any hungrier.  If not, you may be able to cut your portions without feeling any hungrier.  Portion size is the biggest barrier to weight loss.

Fri, July 14:Drink a large glass of water (at least 12 oz) before each meal & snack.  This one helps you to feel full and helps with your water consumption.

Sat, July 15: Free day, enjoy the Shaver party!

Sun, July 16: Don’t eat anything after dinner today

Mon, July 17: Write down everything you eat today – then evaluate how you did at the end of the day.  (This one is great to do everyday!)  Feel free to share if you want.

For tomorrow – 96 oz of water, wait 10 minutes before taking seconds and no caloric beverages!!!  Debyi
